About the Engine

NEX1ON is a website engine that is installed on ordinary hosting in three steps and then lives without editing files: it updates from the panel, modules are switched on and off with one button, and the look is changed without stylesheet files.

What sites it is for

Any: a company site, a catalogue, news or a blog, a knowledge base, a forum, downloads, a shop. The engine's core does not know what kind of site you have — all content is brought by modules, and anything you do not need is switched off together with its addresses, settings and blocks.

What is inside

• 27 modules: pages, news, forum, shop, downloads, comments, custom sections (a builder), contact form, newsletter, polls, banners, tags, code colouring, welcome block, private messages, bookmarks, visits, forms, reviews, events, gallery, share buttons, bookings, "read also", cookies and analytics, questions and answers, a cabinet for apps. Each has its own page.
• 5 themes — Default, "Paper", "Storefront", "Journal", "Terminal". Colours, fonts, corner rounding, block layout, menus and the home page are edited from the panel, as a draft, with a preview. More about themes.
• Languages: the interface is in English, Russian and Ukrainian in release 0.9.7, and four more (Norwegian, Polish, Swedish, Lithuanian) are ready for the next release. Entries have a language and are linked to their translations.
• The panel, with a single search and filtering across all sections, bulk actions, a bin with restore, edit history, a change log and a security log.
• Updating from the panel: the engine learns about a new version on its own, downloads the archive, verifies its fingerprint and installs the files after you press the button. The database is updated with a separate button, with a copy made beforehand.

What it needs

PHP 8.2 or newer, MySQL or MariaDB. No Composer, Node or SSH is needed on the hosting: the engine is installed by unpacking an archive, and then the installer runs in the browser.

How security works

Files uploaded to the media library are given a name by the engine, checked by their content and rebuilt; nothing in the uploads folder is executed. Passwords are stored as hashes, sign-in can be protected with a second step, and guessing attempts are limited. Modules are not installed by uploading an archive through the panel — this decision was made deliberately and is not up for revision. "What protects the site" is shown as a list in the panel, with a link to where each item is fixed.

How to get it

Who makes it

The engine is made by the small NEX1ON studio. The first version appeared on 6 September 2026; the development history is on the forum, and so is the roadmap.
